I recall three movies from social sphere I saw: Intouchables, Me before you, Inside I am dancing. In these three movies there were asistants that were intentionally chosen not from the social sphere, not those with education but such that had a human and sensitive approach. Of course, it is natural that when someone enters a social sphere and educates in such a sphere, then one should be better off with education than without it, but the movies showed the opposite side of education. Education dulls minds. Easily, the inner feeling one has is the most important thing one should follow, ones conscience. Then one should start to educate, but not eduate in order to follow the education and prescripts, teachers etc blindly. Everything one gains during ones life, any information should be inspirational but not to be followed. We should think about everything that comes to us from the outside but should not follow it blindly. Education is important but only to the degree of inspiring us. Once the education start to build a menagerie of our lives, when it starts telling us to follow this and that then we are in a menagerie and do not follow our inner feeling what we feel is good for us as was shown in those movies. The combination of inner feeling and education is the most benefitial for anybody but as I said before, one has to first follow ones inner voice.
I saw yesterday a movie American Beauty by Sam Mendez. The movies is really great depiction of one man´s waking up to life. I would like to focus on the relationship between Ricky and Lester. If I am correct they have four scenes together. The first one is at the bar where Ricky offers Lester a joint, here they become friends. the second scene is where they meet randomly because Lester is running around their house. The third scene is where Lester and Ricky again meet randomly and make gesture that Lester would call Ricky later that day. The fourth and last scene comes the same day evening when Lester runs out of smoke and calls Ricky. He comes and makes him a joint. Ricky then goes home and comes again after the fight with his father. This I do not know why comes as a great feeling of trust. Ricky must have come again to Burnhams because Lester knows that Rick is at Jane´s room when Ricks father visits him. Lester and Ricky must have met again when he came to ask Jane to go away with him. I do not think that there is really a friendly relationship between Rick and Lester but Lester lets Rick go into his house, date his daughter etc and trusts him. Lester works out and knows that maybe he shall see Rick again when he leaves Jane and goes home. I do not why but this feeling of natural trust between people makes me feel really good. Just thinking about the coincidence about meeting Lester and Ricky randomly somewhere and trusting each other makes me feel good. It is so b eatufiul to trust other people not based on some form of friendship but just on the fact that we people should trust each other. If I trust them I shall be trustworthy for others and thus others shall trust me and then I do not havea reason to not trust them. This is where the equation of trust comes full circle.
Here I would like to theoretize about the prototype of a man her in the Shrek movie which I saw. From my experience what women need is two main characteristics in men –reliability( trustworthiness) and dominance. We may of course add other assets but I think that these two sets of characteristics are such that all women want. Shrek is on one hand strong(dominance) but on the other reliable becasuse he is willing to give up his comfort and ego in order to save the princess although he lives quite satisfactorily in his swamp. Although Shrek keeps his strenght he is tolerant enough to get rid of it for the sake of goodness of his princess (he is willing to change his nature of an ogre) and also of others and is also willing to help others – here we see a merger of dominance and reliability. If a hero in a fairy-tale lacks any of there characteristics then the fairy-tale does not convey its romantic message because women implicitly seek dominance and reliability in men – in romantic relationships.
In the shrek 2 movie the donkey appeared in the garden after what they had a row. The donkey still considered him fairly and friendly and shrek could be sure that he can trust him, although he did not want him to come. Via being friendly towarss someone who was unfriendly to me I build trust because i do not show any grudge but on the oppoiste-i show that i can forgive and forget.
